I've always been a huge fan of folk horror, from classics like The Wicker Man, to more recent masterpieces like The VVitch. So to get a chance to work on the beautiful, eerie short For Good Or Ill, Rain Will Come was an absolute treat.
Sometimes, especially in corporate environments, the process of editing can feel a bit mechanical. So it was a wonderful privilege that director Madelaine Moore and screenwriter/producer/actor Eve Carson had the confidence in me to creatively explore, experiment and reimagine the material. Madelaine's focussed direction combined with Eve's deep and understated performance created a grounded and intimate world that felt apart from other offerings in the genre. Taking inspiration from Lynne Ramsay, Steve McQueen and Johnathan Glazer, we restructured the film around a core emotional narrative that broke with many typical horror conventions of pacing and linearity.
With wonderfully textured cinematography from James Ian Gray, For Good Or Ill... is a harrowing and poignant tale of friendship divided by fear.
