Edited by Paula Guran and featuring work by Charlie Jane Anders, Richard Bowes, Naomi Kritzer, Ellen Kushner and many more, Far Out is a great new book for anyone who loves sci-fi, fantasy, short fiction, queer fiction, or just... you know, books. And who doesn't like books? I mean, I'm sure there are people out there who don't but who knows, maybe this will be the book that changes their mind on books. Maybe they'll be all like "You know, I wasn't really into books, what with their pages and having to read them and all, but now I see they contain stories about things I'm completely turned around on the matter." Either way, pick up a copy of Far Out. And also read it, if you want.

<![CDATA[Guess who got shortlisted for 'Unsigned'? (hint: me)]]>Fri, 06 Jul 2018 12:13:22 GMThttp://tristannieto.com/blog/guess-who-got-shortlisted-for-unsigned-hint-meSo about a month or so back I submitted a short screenplay to an amazing showcase called 'Unsigned'. It was run by Rebel Muse Productions and was looking to promote writers who have a harder time getting their work in front of agents - women, LGBT+, people of colour, as well as writers with disabilities and writers from poorer economic backgrounds. It's an incredible project and there should be more of them like it out there.

In the end, I missed the final cut by the tiniest of margins, but I did make the shortlist, which in itself was excellent. I wouldn't have got there without my amazing team of reviewers who helped me shape the work and generally made it more awesome:

Lee Zachariah
BP Gregory
Katherine Gillham
Selina Mayer

All of them are amazing creators in their own right, so you should check out their work too!

This project has really got me interested in short film again. It's often looked down on as a lesser format than its longer, feature length cousin, but it's a complex and challenging medium in its own right. Two great shorts that have passed across my radar recently have been Tim Egan's Curve and Daniel Knight's Troll Bridge.

Curve is an absolute masterpiece of minimalist film making. I've never seen a film that's done so much with so little.
Troll Bridge comes from the complete opposite direction. It's the epic culmination of years of work and hundreds of artists across the globe.

Check all these people and their work out. Buy their stuff. Tweet about it. Personally, I'm excited to see the work from the ten Unsigned finalists - keep your eyes out for those names.

<![CDATA[New site, new blog]]>Tue, 29 May 2018 15:35:08 GMThttp://tristannieto.com/blog/new-site-new-blogSo here it is, my new blog on my new site. If I'm honest I'm not actually sure what I'm going to write here. It will probably be a combination of deep and profound explorations of the human psyche and fart jokes. But mostly fart jokes.

As I type this, I just got an email with some exciting news, but I'm sworn to secrecy until the official announcement. But never fear; when the official go-ahead is given I won't ever shut up about it, so consider these next few days of silence a gift from me.

Anyway, welcome to the new site and feel free to explore. And be sure to check out my etsy store where you can participate in the soul-destroying charade that is capitalism and give me money for stuff. It's just my short stores right now, but I hope to fill it with a varied range of objets f 'art (nailed it).
